This work was created with the aim of expressing the emotions of pursuing dreams within human relationships and social life. By shaping a being that emerges from a chrysalis and radiates fresh beauty, alongside an aged figure that struggles yet could not transform in such a way, I sought to portray both a person moving forward into a new stage and another who, while resisting the constraints of social life, simultaneously falls into despair.
What I aimed for in the composition was the coexistence of ideal and reality. The girl was sculpted as an idealized figure, with exaggerated body curves, while the elderly man reaching out to her was made in a realistic form. Between them, I placed a semi-realistic man in a chrysalis, believing that this arrangement could connect reality to the ideal through form.
I believe that the figure who chases dreams and becomes idealized, the figure who struggles through the muddy reality, and the figure who stands still between the two—all of them are precious. I would be grateful if this work allows you to feel even a little of that.
